My Technique
When most people think about a corporate headshot, their mind immediately wanders to a drab place, devoid of color or substance. Washed-out colors and awkward images cropped in weird places. The forced smile and the unwelcomed attention that it brings. I think that we are better than this and we as photographers have to do better.
Make them feel relaxed
It’s always about making the subject feel comfortable, striking up a conversation, taking their mind off the flashes, the speed lights, and you tinkering with the lens, and camera. Instead, focus on getting genuine emotion. I do what I like to call capturing someone as they experience an emotion, tell a joke (if you are funny) strike up a conversation, take a few staged shots and then take a few real ones.
That’s what makes a great shot an amazing one.
